There are some main conventions that promotional websites should keep to, these include:
- Clear navigation, labeling of headings etc.
- Using only a few colours, using mostly the artist/ bands branding colours
- Making the homepage clear and precise, using only the most important information
- Using Familiar and basic font styles for text
- Making sure that the website targets the correct audience
For example Katy Perry's, Metalica's and Florence and The Macheine's websites are all completly different. This is because they are trying to appeal to different audiences and are trying to fit in with different genres.

| Katy Perry's Official Website |
This website is layed out very differently to the other two websites that I have looked at.
All her information seem to go down the page, and you have to keep scrolling down to view certain parts of the website. I think this is not a very good idea as it looks scattered about a bit. But what is good, is they have used the same picture that is on her album, on the top of her website. They therefore relate and it also promotes the album.
What also is good is that the social networking sites links are right at the top of the page and it is what you see first when the page loads up, this promotes viral marketing and the online revolution.
On first half of the page you can see there is 3 advertising links to buy her album and this is almost using the hypodermic needle theory and this is because we are being almost pushed to buy the album.
There is a video section on the website and this is good as it is again promoting her new songs and also promoting her image.
On the bottom half of the web page, we see a link to her official merchandise store and again this is good as it is promoting her new albums.
What i think is good about this website is that at the bottom there is quite a lot about her fans and it involves them, for example they have posted a fan made video of one of her up and coming songs. This is an excellent way of interacting with her audience and I'm sure that she gains a lot of fans and credit by doing this.
