CD cover Designs

CD covers are used by artists to promote themselves and their music. They are used to show what they are like and what their music is like. They are to show an indication of what genre and style their music is.

There are some main conventions that CD covers usualy have:
  • They al have the artists name on the cover
  • They all have the name of the Album/single on the cover
  • They all have some sort of image on the cover that is used to promote themselves or their music
  • They also use a minimum of around 3 house colours
They also try to balance the amount of 'white space' and visual clutter on the cover to try and promote the artists music.
For example Biffy Clyro's album has a lot of 'white space' as this shows that the album is quite mysterious, whereas Florence's Album is a lot of Visual Clutter and this is to reflect her genre of music and personality.

Lady Gaga: The Fame Monster

Biffy Clyro: Puzzle

Florence and the Machine: Lungs

Leona Lewis: Spirit

Example of how two differnet boy bands, from differnet genres and with different target audiences use their Album Artwork to Promote their Music:

You Me At Six: Hold Me Down                        JLS
