Laura has the same style and genre as our artist. She is acoustic and very soulful. She has created a brand identity that fits with her genre of music.
Her Website is extremely soft and easy to read. The Typeface is very stylish and simple. This typeface is the same on her album cover. (Sans Serif)
She has used the image motif of colouring in some of the letters in the text. This is seen to be very artistic and therefore fits in with the style of her music. She has used the house colours of purple, yellow and blue. These colours are then used to create the headings on her website.
She is selling her music not through her image, but through her music and artistic image motifs, such as the tree and the black and white sketches.
These sketches appear on the back of the digi pack and also on the headings on the website.

I could not find a magazine advert for her but I did find that she was on the front cover of NME magazine and promoted her new album 'I Speak Because I Can' within the magazine.

Amy Mcdonad also has the same style and genre of music as  Laura Marling and our artist. She has a different way of promoting herself and a different brand identity.
The main thing that is different is that she uses herself to promote the music, whereas Laura uses a more artistic approach to her brand identity.
She has used the same type face (Sans Serif) across all of her promotional material. It is easy to read and the colour white makes her name stand out well.
Everything from her website to album cover to promotional posters are simple. This theme seems to run across the genre of music.
The colours used are quite dull and boring but this reflects within her music as she sings quite sad songs.

From this research we have thought of many ideas on how WE can create a Brnad Identity for Molly Venter...
  • We have thought of using images of the girl in our music video to represent Molly. We will use these images on our Advertisement and Album cover.
  • As well as using images we wanted to create an artistic brand identity, and therefore we have come up with the ideas of creating one of the pictures into a sketch and almost creating a logo like Laura Marling has done.
  • We want to incorporate polaroid shots within our promotional material to match our video.
  • Also we want to include a vintage feel to our material, like Laura Marling has done. We will acheive this by using colours that will create a vintage feel.
  • We could also use a sepia effect on the album cover, like we are doing with parts of our music video.
  • Our typeface is again going to be easy to read, but we also want to use Serif for our artists name so that it looks more personal and handwritten.
  • Overall we want to create promotional material that links throughout.
