How Do Magazine Advertisements Promote Artists?

Magazine Adverts are extremely useful in promoting artists and bands. They are usually in music magazines such as NME.

Throughout my research I have found that the adverts include many things such as:
  • Tour dates
  • When the album/single is out to download and buy in shops
  • Where you can buy and download the music
  • Reviews and star ratings
Here are a couple of examples, you can see that they both include some of the common conventions used in many music magazines.

The magazine adverts usually look the same as the artists/bands album cover, this is so that people can see that they are the same band. It creates a better theme across their promotional material.
The two magazine adverts above are very different. The one to the left has a lot of white space, but this fits their type of music as it is quite simple and acoustic at times, whereas the advert on the right is very cluttered and they have fitted quite a lot of material on it. This therefore suits their type of music as it is quite complex and different.
Therefore magazine adverts need to fit the genre of music and they need to be appealing and have conventions that are the same as the album cover.
